The Underground

The Underground is a wooden roller coaster at Adventureland that combines dark ride elements with a mining theme, running mostly inside a mine setting. It features two small lift hills and several themed scenes that create an underground mining experience.

Custom Coasters International built this roller coaster in 1996 as an indoor wooden attraction at the amusement park. The ride has undergone several renovations over the years to maintain and improve its operation.

The ride tells a story inspired by Iowa's mining past, taking visitors through underground tunnels on a Wild West adventure with local roots. You experience the region's heritage woven into the narrative as you move through the mine setting.

The coaster runs trains with 28 passengers arranged in two rows of two seats per car. Since the entire ride takes place indoors, it is accessible regardless of weather conditions.

The coaster underwent a complete track rebuild with new show scenes added to modernize the ride experience. This project demonstrates the park's commitment to keeping popular attractions fresh and engaging.
