Adventureland, Theme park in Altoona, US
Adventureland is a theme park in Altoona, Iowa, covering around 180 acres and featuring approximately 50 rides. The site is divided into several themed sections, including roller coasters, water attractions, and family-friendly options.
The park was built on the site of a former airport starting in 1973 and opened in August 1974 after a tornado delayed construction. Since then, the facility has expanded several times with new roller coasters and themed areas.
The sections carry names inspired by adventure and fantasy, such as Dragon Island or Adventure Bay. Each zone follows its own visual theme with rides and attractions designed to match that specific setting.
The park opens from May through October, with daily operation from mid-May to mid-August and weekend opening until late October. The site is accessible from major roads around Des Moines and offers on-site parking facilities.
The Monster roller coaster opened in 2016 as the first of its construction type in the country and stands out for its track design. It is among the newer additions and draws visitors with a distinctive ride experience.
