Bayville Bridge, Road bridge in Nassau County, New York, US
Bayville Bridge is a bascule bridge linking the villages of Bayville and Mill Neck while spanning Mill Neck Creek and Oyster Bay Harbor. Its double-leaf design allows both road traffic and vessels to pass through the waterway below.
A wooden bridge first appeared at this location in 1898, followed by the present bascule structure completed in 1938 to replace earlier versions. This provided a major upgrade for crossing between the two communities.
The bridge serves as a central connection point for maritime communities, enabling both vehicle traffic and boat passage through Oyster Bay Harbor.
The bridge operates seasonally from May through October, with special arrangements needed for openings at other times. Visitors should expect possible delays when boats need to pass through, particularly during warmer months.
Substantial renovations were completed in 2021 with automated lift controls and upgraded structural elements installed. The new systems enable smoother and more precise boat passages compared to the original mechanical setup.
