Capital Plaza Office Tower, Government office tower in Frankfort, Kentucky, US.
Capital Plaza Office Tower was a 26-story government building with glass facades that dominated downtown Frankfort. The complex included office spaces, conference rooms, meeting areas, and an adjacent hotel with parking.
Designed by Edward Durell Stone & Associates, it opened in 1972 to house Kentucky state government offices. The building shaped Frankfort's skyline for over four decades before being demolished in 2018.
The tower represented a central element of Kentucky state operations, housing multiple government departments and fostering administrative collaboration between state offices.
The complex offered public meeting spaces and conference facilities that were easy to navigate inside the building. Attached parking and the hotel made visits convenient for those who needed to stay longer.
The tower's glass exterior was notably advanced for the 1970s, making it an easily recognizable landmark in the city. This modernist approach set it clearly apart from older structures around it.
