Church of the Disciples, Unitarian church building in Boston, United States.
The Church of the Disciples was a Unitarian congregation that occupied different church buildings throughout Boston. The final location before closing stood at the corner of Jersey and Peterboro Streets.
Founded in 1841 by James Freeman Clarke, the congregation served Boston for over a century. In 1942 it merged with Arlington Street Church, ending its independent operation.
The congregation drew people interested in progressive religious thought during the 1800s. They hosted lectures and meetings that reflected their focus on education and social reform.
The building no longer operates as an active church but the site can be visited. Walking through the area gives a sense of where this congregation once gathered.
From 1849 to 1854 members held monthly gatherings even without a permanent home. This period shows how committed the congregation was to maintaining their connection.
