Breidenhart

Breidenhart is a stone historic house with two and a half stories, distinguished by a polygonal corner turret. The building sits on expansive landscaped grounds and once served as a residence for wealthy families.

The property was built in 1894 by Samuel Leeds Allen, the inventor of the Flexible Flyer sled. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

The house reflects the tastes of wealthy American families in the late 1800s who valued spacious rooms and fine craftsmanship. The careful architectural design shows how such homes displayed the social standing of their owners.

The property is currently managed by Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey. Visitors should confirm access times and any restrictions ahead of your visit since it operates as an active facility.

Between 1918 and 1943, Eldridge Johnson, founder of the Victor Talking Machine Company, had custom wood paneling installed throughout interior rooms. These handcrafted details remain visible in several rooms today.
