Ba Son Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Ba Son Bridge is a cable-stayed span crossing the Saigon River with an asymmetrical pylon that leans toward the Thu Thiem side. Its six-lane roadway is supported by 56 cable bundles extending downward from the central tower structure.
Completed in 2022, the bridge replaced the former Ba Son Shipyard, which had long operated as a ship construction and repair facility. This transition marked a fundamental shift from maritime industrial use to modern transport infrastructure.
The bridge links two major urban districts and serves as a daily crossing for thousands of commuters between central areas and eastern neighborhoods. It has become a recognizable landmark of contemporary Ho Chi Minh City, visible from many vantage points across the metropolis.
The bridge accommodates four car lanes plus two mixed-traffic lanes for pedestrians and bicycles. Plan visits during off-peak hours, as mornings and evenings experience heavy congestion from commuter traffic.
The asymmetrical pylon leans about 113 meters toward the Thu Thiem side, creating an unusual visual imbalance. This intentional tilted design was an architectural gamble that gives the structure its distinctive character.
