Villa Francine

Villa Francine is a residential building in Ostend located on Albert I-Promenade with a limestone and granite facade across three stories topped by a mansard roof. The interior contains three bedrooms, a large living room with sea views, bicycle storage, and a private garage.

Architect Antoine Dujardin built this villa in 1894 as Ostend was becoming a major coastal resort for the Belgian elite. The building emerged during a period when wealthy families were establishing grand seaside residences with contemporary international design.

The building blends neogothic and Renaissance details with decorative faience panels that reflect how Ostend absorbed international design influences in its residential architecture. These stylistic choices show the town's ambition to present itself as a sophisticated seaside destination during the early resort era.

The building sits directly on the coastal promenade, making it easy to locate and view from outside. Keep in mind this is a private residence, so visitors can only see the exterior and loggia from the public path.

The rectangular loggia features built-in benches and colorful tile panels depicting flowers, foliage, and birds signed by the BOCH FRS manufacturer. These handcrafted ceramics demonstrate the skilled tile-making tradition that flourished in Belgium during the early 1900s.
