Schaugarten am Tiefwarensee, Botanical show garden at Tiefwarensee peninsula in Waren, Germany
Schaugarten am Tiefwarensee is a botanical garden on a peninsula with about 16,000 square meters of space, surrounded by water. The grounds contain Mediterranean plants in containers, summer flowers, local perennials, and four greenhouses holding one of northern Germany's largest cactus collections.
The site began with a focus on local plant species and was later expanded to include four greenhouses. This growth shows how the garden developed from a simple local collection into a major botanical exhibition.
The garden blends Eastern design approaches with local plant traditions, visible across its different sections. Visitors experience how gardening styles from various traditions coexist and inform the layout of the grounds.
The garden is open daily from March to September and provides paths through the different plant areas. Visitors should wear suitable shoes and allow time to explore both the greenhouses and outdoor sections.
The garden houses rare solitary trees and flowering shrubs on a meadow surrounded completely by water. This natural peninsula setting within the lake creates an unusual botanical island.
