Apothekerturm

The Apothekerturm is a cylindrical medieval tower with two upper stories and stone details such as brackets and cornices. The structure was originally part of the city wall and served to defend the town.

The tower dates from the medieval period and was part of the original fortification of Heldburg. In 1852, a pharmacist acquired the building and later renovated it.

The tower shows how city walls were built in Thuringia and what construction methods people used during the medieval period. You can still see the stone brackets and cornices today, which reveal how defensive structures worked.

The tower is located in the old town of Heldburg and can be viewed from outside, even though it is privately owned. The best views are from the surrounding streets, which show the tower from different angles.

The dome of the tower does not come from the original building but was added in 1870 from elsewhere. This later-added roof crown shows how owners in the 1800s modernized old buildings by incorporating elements from other locations.
