Jens Langknivs hule, Ancient burial site in Viborg Municipality, Denmark.
Jens Langknivs hule is an ancient long barrow located near Karup in Denmark, stretching 36 meters in length and measuring 7.5 meters across. The structure contains stone chambers that were originally covered with earth and stones, aligned toward the northwest.
The monument was built during the Neolithic period, around 3500 to 2800 BCE, for ritual burials. It underwent major restoration work in the early 1900s and was designated as a protected ancient site.
This burial place served as a focal point for early community rituals and beliefs about the afterlife. The careful arrangement of chambers reveals how people of that era honored their dead and organized their sacred spaces.
The site is freely accessible and located within a wooded area where visitors can explore at their own pace. Walking shoes are recommended, as the ground can be uneven around the stone structures.
Excavations uncovered various objects including flint daggers, pottery shards, and a bronze arm ring that offer clues about daily life and trade in this ancient period. These discoveries reveal that people from different social groups were buried here.
