Karup Å, Small river in Viborg Municipality, Denmark.
The Karup River extends for 78 kilometers through central Jutland, making it the sixth largest waterway in Denmark with a basin area of 756 square kilometers.
During the 1870s, an extensive canal system was constructed around the river to manage water supply and support hay production for cattle grazing grounds.
The river holds significance in Danish literature through poet Jeppe Aakjær's works, who wrote about it in his 1901 collection titled 'Fri Felt'.
The river divides into upper, middle, and lower sections, with the middle stretch from Karup to Hagebro Bridge containing deep bends suitable for short-rod fishing.
A sea trout weighing 14.4 kilos caught in 1939 by Christian Plejdrup set a world record and remains displayed at the Trevad Trout Park Hatchery.
