The Biodiversitätsmuseum sits in the upper floor of a historic building and displays extensive collections from the University of Göttingen with tens of thousands of animal specimens and skeletons. The building was constructed in 1877 as the Natural History Museum for the university and housed important scientists and their research for many decades. After major renovation work from 2017 to 2022, it reopened in 2025 with a new focus on biodiversity.
