Börsenhochhaus, High-rise building in Idar-Oberstein, Germany.
The Börsenhochhaus is a 23-story steel, concrete, and glass tower that rises 75 meters above Mainzer Street and dominates the skyline. The building contains office spaces, meeting rooms, a hotel, a law office, a music school, and a bistro on the ground level.
The building was constructed between 1971 and 1973 to serve as headquarters for the German Diamond and Gemstone Exchange. The exchange relocated in 2011, after which the tower attracted tenants from various sectors.
The building was designed as a center for diamond and gemstone trading and continues to shape the city's economic identity. Its spaces reflect a time when this industry defined how the region saw itself.
Access to public areas like the ground-floor bistro is open to all visitors, while office areas may require checking in at reception. The central location on Mainzer Street makes it easy to reach on foot.
The building housed the German Gemstone Museum until 1996, when the collection moved to Villa Purpers across the street. Today few traces remain of this museum function from earlier decades.
