Caserne Jacques Vion, Fire station in Saint-Cyprien, Toulouse, France.
Caserne Jacques Vion is a fire station in Toulouse with a distinctive reinforced concrete structure and residential quarters for firefighters. The building merges a vehicle garage beneath curved concrete forms with living spaces stacked above the operational area.
Architect Pierre Debeaux designed and completed this fire station in 1966 as a modern operational center. The naming came afterward to honor a lieutenant who died during wildfire response duties.
The structure received the Remarkable Contemporary Architecture label in 2019 and earned Monument Historique status in September 2023.
The complex sits in the Saint-Cyprien neighborhood and remains accessible by public transportation throughout the area. The site is undergoing major redevelopment to add contemporary amenities while maintaining its core function.
The roof structure rests on remarkably thin concrete shells measured in just a few centimeters. This innovative building technique allowed the architect to achieve unusual spatial proportions and structural freedom in the design.
