Megginch Castle

Megginch Castle is a medieval tower house standing on the flat Carse of Gowrie plain between Perth and Dundee in eastern Scotland. The structure combines elements from different building periods that shaped its appearance and layout over time.

The original tower was built in the 15th century and underwent substantial expansions in the following centuries. Later additions in the early 1700s reflected evolving architectural styles and the growing needs of the resident families.

The castle carries ties to Scottish noble families, particularly the Drummond clan, whose presence shaped the identity of this residence over centuries. Today, the place reflects how such historic homes remain centers of family heritage and continuity.

This is a private family property where the gardens open to visitors only once yearly through Scotland's Gardens Scheme. Planning ahead is important since access is limited to this single annual opening.

The gardens hold two National Plant Collections focusing on Scottish apple and pear varieties that preserve rare heritage cultivars. Ancient yew trees scattered throughout the grounds have stood for hundreds of years and anchor the sense of time.
