St Ellyw's Church

St Ellyw's Church, Anglican parish church in Llanelli, Wales.

St Ellyw's Church is an Anglican parish church in Llanelli, Wales, built from rubble stone with red sandstone details and green slate roofing. The structure features a prominent west tower with a clock visible from the south and an unusual octagonal chimney rising between the chancel and nave.

The church began with its west tower, which remains the oldest portion of the structure. The architect George Frederick Bodley carried out extensive renovations between 1905 and 1906 that shaped much of what visitors see today.

The church bears the name of Saint Ellyw and serves as a spiritual center for the local community in Llanelli. It remains a place where residents gather for worship and community events throughout the year.

The church sits on Bridge Street facing Llanelly House, making it straightforward to locate. The tower is visible from several angles and serves as a useful landmark for visitors approaching on foot or by car.

The building features a rare octagonal chimney rising between the chancel and nave, an architectural detail not commonly seen in parish churches. This distinctive element combined with the corbelled parapet on the tower creates a memorable silhouette.
