Jade's Crossing

Jade's Crossing is a steel footbridge in Detling that spans the A249 dual carriageway, connecting both sides of the village. The structure provides pedestrians with safe passage above the busy road that carries traffic between two major motorways.

The footbridge opened in August 2002 following a community campaign to make the crossing safer. The project was prompted by a fatal road accident that occurred in December 2000.

The footbridge features a ballerina silhouette in its design, reflecting the passion of the young girl it commemorates. This artistic choice tells her personal story to those who cross it.

Access to the footbridge is straightforward, with clear routes to both sides of the village. The structure is easily visible from the main road, making it simple to locate when crossing the A249.

A memorial plaque near the crossing records names of those who lost their lives at this location. This marker serves as a solemn reminder of the road accidents that preceded the bridge's construction.
