New Brighton Lighthouse, Grade II* listed lighthouse in Wirral, United Kingdom.
New Brighton Lighthouse is a stone tower standing on Perch Rock at the point where the Mersey River meets Liverpool Bay. The structure rises about 28.5 meters and features solid construction details including dovetail joints and marble pins.
The lighthouse was built in 1830 by Tomkinson & Company using granite blocks quarried from Anglesey Island. It guided ships through Mersey waters until 1973 when it was taken out of service.
This maritime structure maintains its original architectural elements, including dovetail joints and marble pins, representing British coastal engineering excellence.
During low tide visitors can walk out to the base of the tower for close views of the structure. The rocky outcrop is uneven and often slippery, so sturdy footwear helps when exploring the surrounding area.
A modern LED installation at the tower's base displays names of people lost at sea from various maritime disasters. This memorial honors those who perished in significant ocean tragedies throughout history.
