Dowhill Castle, Medieval tower house in Perth and Kinross, Scotland.
Dowhill Castle is a stone tower in Perth and Kinross with vaulted basements and surviving remains of its first floor. The northern side reveals traces of a fortified courtyard that once enclosed the structure.
The land passed from the Crambeth family to the Lindsays around 1500, when the tower was constructed after centuries of earlier ownership. This marked the beginning of a new era for the site under the control of its new proprietors.
The Lindsay family faced persecution for supporting the Covenanters during the 17th century, leading to legal disputes and financial difficulties.
The castle sits near Loch Leven and is accessible through regional transportation networks. The site can be reached by local routes that connect to broader travel options in the area.
Architect Robert Adam drew inspiration from this castle for his designs of Seton, Dalquharran, and Culzean castles in the 18th century.
