Dalnair House

Dalnair House is a classic Scottish residence from the late 17th century with a distinctive T-shaped floor plan, two stories, an attic, and a characteristic staircase tower featuring crowstepped gables on the north side. Inside, the original entrance hall, former kitchen with a round-arched fireplace, and a stone spiral staircase in the tower showcase the building's traditional layout and craftsmanship.

The structure was built in 1682 when James Craig, Minister of Killearn, acquired the lands from Archibald, Lord Napier in 1679 and established his residence there. The property later passed through the hands of several prominent local families, including the Grahams of Gartmore and the Buchanans of Carbeth, each leaving their mark on its ownership and stewardship.

The building displays traditional Scottish architectural features such as rubble stone walls with dressed quoins and decorative eaves cornices that are typical of regional construction methods. These crafted details shape the appearance of the structure and are immediately visible when you approach it.

The house is best viewed during daylight to fully appreciate the stonework and interior details. Access may be limited, so it is wise to check current opening conditions and visiting information before planning your visit.
