St Botolph Building, Modern high-rise office building in City of London, United Kingdom.
The St Botolph Building is a modern high-rise in the City of London featuring a distinctive blue-tinted glass facade and technical design approach. The structure spans 15 stories and contains four access cores, 16 independent elevators, a central atrium, and amenities including a coffee shop, gym, and bicycle storage.
The site previously held a British Telecom office block before Grimshaw Architects designed and completed this new building in 2010. The development represented an architectural renewal of the location within London's financial district.
The building demonstrates modern British commercial architecture through its technological design approach and use of contemporary materials. Its distinctive blue-tinted glass facade serves as a visual marker within the financial district's streetscape.
The building is centrally located in the City of London and easily accessible, with a central atrium that helps orient visitors when navigating the space. The multiple independent elevators allow efficient movement between floors, even during busy times in the financial district.
The building employs the uncommon ThyssenKrupp TWIN technology, allowing two separate elevator cars to operate simultaneously within the same shaft. This system is found in few modern high-rises and increases transport efficiency when moving people through multiple floors.
