Lago di Meugliano, lake in Italy
Lago di Meugliano is a small moraine-dammed lake in a protected conservation area, surrounded by larch, spruce, and pine trees. The water body sits at about 750 meters in elevation, spans roughly 700 meters around its perimeter, and reaches a maximum depth of about 11 meters.
The lake formed through glacier movement during the ice age and sits within the moraine amphitheater south of Ivrea. The forests surrounding the water were replanted in the 1930s as part of reforestation efforts to restore the eroded landscape.
The lake sits in the Meugliano area and is part of a protected conservation zone that reflects the region's commitment to preserving its natural character. The surrounding conifer forests and birch groves planted in the 1930s shape how people experience the landscape today.
The lake is easily accessible by car and has a large free parking area on the right side of the shoreline road. A walk around the entire perimeter takes about one hour and suits visitors of all ages.
The lake can freeze over during winter due to its shallow maximum depth of about 11 meters. This icing transforms the landscape into a particularly striking scene during the colder months.
