Miniera d'oro della Guia

Miniera d'oro della Guia is an industry museum within the Alpine mountains that showcases preserved tunnels and natural gold deposits showing how the mine was organized. The underground passages lead through original work areas and allow visitors to walk through the actual mining landscape.

The mine opened in 1710 and operated for more than 250 years, with the most intense production occurring during the Second World War. Its closure in 1961 marked the end of a long era of mining activity in this region.

Mining shaped the identity of Anzasca Valley for centuries, and locals still speak of the hardship and camaraderie forged below ground. Preserved tools and personal items on display tell the story of workers who carved their livelihoods from the mountain.

Visitors should prepare for cool temperatures and high humidity underground, as conditions remain constantly cool and damp. The tunnel network is structured for accessibility, making it manageable for most people, though sturdy footwear is wise.

The mine consists of an extensive network that takes visitors deep into the mountain landscape and reveals natural geology firsthand. The underground system is laid out so that one can experience the real interplay between human effort and the rock.
