Monte Moro, Alpine summit at Valais-Piedmont border, Switzerland and Italy
Monte Moro is a mountain summit on the border between Valais in Switzerland and Piedmont in Italy. The peak features rocky granite slopes and rises to nearly 3,000 meters, with a ridge that separates two valleys below.
The mountain pass near the summit served as a key trade route between Switzerland and Italy in medieval times. Merchants crossed this route for centuries, moving goods back and forth across the Alps.
The mountain draws climbers from Switzerland and Italy who see it as a natural meeting point. Both countries' mountaineering communities have long used the pass and routes here, making it a shared destination.
The summit can be reached from two main routes starting at the mountain pass, with the eastern route taking about 30 minutes under normal conditions. Visitors should expect rocky and uneven ground throughout the climb and wear proper mountain boots.
The mountain is made of a special granite called gneiss with eye-like patterns, which provides solid climbing surfaces. Yet despite this solid core, loose rocks and scree scatter across the routes, making each climb feel different.
