Marine Court, Grade II listed building in St Leonards-on-Sea, England.
Marine Court is a residential building with commercial spaces at street level located in St Leonards-on-Sea along the English coast. The structure extends along the seafront with multiple stories featuring balconies and direct access to the promenade below.
The building was completed in 1938 and designed to resemble the architecture of the ocean liner RMS Queen Mary. During World War II, it served as headquarters for the Royal Air Force.
The ground floor once hosted a major restaurant and later a nightclub where famous musicians performed during the 1960s. This venue became a meeting place that shaped the local entertainment scene of that era.
The building is easily accessible from the seafront promenade and features shops and restaurants at ground level. Visitors can walk along the waterfront to view the facade and surrounding area.
When it opened, the building was the tallest residential structure in Britain, featuring an innovative steel frame with brick cavity external walls for the time. This construction method represented a technical advancement in how tall buildings were erected.
