St Georges Town Hall, Grade II listed building in Cable Street, Tower Hamlets, England.
St Georges Town Hall is a 19th-century civic building located on Cable Street in Tower Hamlets. The symmetrical front elevation displays five sections with a porch adorned with Doric columns and Ionic columns on the first floor.
The building was constructed in 1860 by architect Andrew Wilson to replace inadequate meeting spaces in the nearby Church of St George in the East. This new civic center gave the community its own dedicated administrative home.
The building served as the heart of local government where residents gathered to shape decisions affecting their neighborhood. The spaces inside reflect how important people considered this place for their community's voice.
The building is used today as an event venue with multiple rooms of different sizes. The Tower Suite accommodates around 200 guests while the Hamlet Suite provides a smaller option seating about 20 people.
The building was the site of a major inquiry connected to one of London's most infamous crime stories. In October 1888, a coroner's inquest took place here related to the Whitechapel murders.
