Twr Mawr Llanddwyn Lighthouse, Maritime lighthouse in Rhosyr, Wales
Twr Mawr Llanddwyn Lighthouse is a conical stone tower standing on the coast of Anglesey in Wales. The structure features small windows positioned on its northeast face and rises to about 10 meters tall.
The tower was built in 1845 to guide ships through the Menai Strait. Maritime operations ended in 1975.
The structure exhibits architectural elements common to Anglesey windmills, reflecting the regional building traditions of nineteenth-century Welsh maritime structures.
The building is easily accessible from the outside and sits on grounds reachable by foot. It stands as a protected heritage site that can be viewed from the exterior today.
Light was originally produced by six Argand lamps fitted with a silver-coated reflector. From 1861 onward, a Fresnel lens was installed to extend the light's reach across greater distances.
