Doca do Cavacas

Doca do Cavacas is a natural pool complex along the Funchal coastline, carved from volcanic rock and filled continuously with Atlantic seawater. The site features multiple rock basins of varying depths connected to the surrounding ocean.

The rock formations were created by volcanic activity over thousands of years as Madeira's island landscape developed. This geological process shaped the black rock structures that define the site today.

The pools serve as a gathering place where local people come year-round to swim and enjoy meals together in a relaxed setting. The mix of water activities and shared dining creates a social rhythm that shapes daily life at this spot.
