Suzanne Berlioux swimming pool, Public indoor swimming pool in Paris, France
The Piscine Suzanne-Berlioux is a public indoor swimming pool located three levels underground inside the Forum des Halles shopping complex in central Paris. It has a 50-meter main pool divided into eight lanes, along with a smaller pool used for lessons and group activities.
The pool opened in 1987, shortly after the Forum des Halles complex was built over the old Les Halles market district. It was renovated in 2012 to update its facilities and keep it in line with the needs of a modern city pool.
The Piscine Suzanne-Berlioux is named after a French swimmer who won a medal at the 1960 Olympic Games. Her name gives the pool a personal connection to competitive swimming in France that many visitors do not know about.
The pool is open year-round, with early morning sessions and evening slots on weekdays that suit people with busy schedules. The entrance is inside the Forum des Halles complex, so it helps to follow the signs from the main shopping area on your first visit.
The pool sits three floors underground inside one of the busiest shopping centers in Paris, making it one of the few public pools in the world built directly beneath a major retail complex. Most people walking through the Forum des Halles above have no idea there is a full-size competition pool directly beneath them.
