Parc océanique Cousteau, Marine education center in Forum des Halles, France
Parc océanique Cousteau was a marine education center located within Forum des Halles that spanned four levels showcasing reconstructed ocean environments. The exhibition used films and displays to teach visitors about marine ecosystems without keeping live animals or traditional aquariums.
Jean-Michel Cousteau developed the concept for this urban marine park drawing inspiration from earlier ocean-based museum projects. The facility opened in the 1980s as an educational venue focused on ocean research and environmental conservation.
The facility presented Cousteau team films and marine displays to educate visitors about ocean preservation through immersive scientific exhibits.
The park was easily accessible via Metro and centrally located within Forum des Halles, making it convenient for both residents and visitors. The spaces were well-marked and allowed for independent exploration of all four levels.
A suspended transport system originally built for the park was later dismantled and partially relocated to the Futuroscope theme park in Poitiers. This reuse of equipment demonstrated how innovative designs found new purposes elsewhere.
