Rose Theatre, Arts venue in New Town, Edinburgh, Scotland
The Rose Theatre is an arts venue in New Town comprising five performance spaces: a main hall with 340 seats, a basement space, a cabaret bar, a studio, and an attic stage. The spaces host theatre productions, comedy shows, music performances, dance recitals, and cabaret acts.
The building originally opened in 1912 as Charlotte Chapel with 1,000 seats, designed by architects J A Arnott and J Inch Morrison for a Baptist congregation. It was later converted into a modern arts venue and underwent major renovation in 2017.
The venue is home to the MGA Academy, a major Scottish theatre school, and hosts regular evening and weekend performances that draw different types of audiences.
The venue is located at 204 Rose Street in New Town and is easily accessible on foot. Check the website ahead of your visit to see what events are scheduled and when the space is open.
After the 2017 renovation, the cafe section earned multiple awards and stays open even when the main theatre is temporarily closed. This makes the cafe a standalone destination in its own right.
