St. La Salle Hall, Neoclassical university building in Malate, Philippines.
St. La Salle Hall is an H-shaped structure rising four stories above Taft Avenue with whitewashed walls and Corinthian columns. An open portico frames the main entrance and creates a passage through the building's center.
Architect Tomás Mapúa designed the structure in 1920 after winning an architectural competition, marking the start of De La Salle University's move away from its original Paco location. This expansion reflected the institution's growth and its increasing presence in central Manila.
The Chapel of the Most Blessed Sacrament in the south wing serves as a spiritual center where members of the university community gather for prayer and reflection.
The ground floor houses administrative offices including the Registrar's Office and departments of the College of Business and Economics. Keep in mind that this is an active university building, so check visiting conditions before your visit to understand access rules.
Japanese forces occupied the building during World War II, resulting in the loss of sixteen Brothers and twenty-five civilians in February 1945. This tragic chapter remains part of the site's memory of the occupation period.
