Paper House, Historic house museum in Rockport, US
The Paper House is a historic house museum in Rockport with walls and furnishings made of newspaper pressed into solid panels between wooden frames. The entire interior, from walls to furniture, was constructed from this unconventional material.
An engineer named Elis Stenman built this summer residence between 1922 and 1924 using around 100,000 newspapers. The construction employed homemade adhesive made from flour and water to bind the paper layers together.
The furnishings display newspapers documenting major historical moments, including reports of important events from the 1920s. This paper-based interior tells stories from a specific era and brings the past to life within the house.
The house is located in a residential area and can be reached on foot, with interior spaces being readily accessible. Visitors should plan to take time examining the details of the paper craftsmanship and construction.
A piano in the house is completely covered with newspaper paper, showing the creative use of the material even on musical instruments. Furniture is also made entirely of rolled paper, demonstrating an innovative approach to furniture making from newspaper.
