Annisquam Harbor Light, Lighthouse on Wigwam Point, Gloucester, United States.
Annisquam Harbor Light is a cylindrical brick tower standing about 12.5 meters tall at the entrance to Annisquam River. The structure features a white exterior with a black lantern room at its top that has guided boats through the waterway for over two centuries.
The original wooden lighthouse was established in 1801 to guide vessels in the area. The present brick tower was constructed in 1897 on the same foundation, replacing the earlier wooden structure while continuing its navigational purpose.
The lighthouse represents Massachusetts maritime heritage as one of four navigational beacons protecting vessels around the Gloucester peninsula.
The lighthouse can be viewed clearly from Wingaersheek Beach, which sits nearby and offers good sightlines of the structure and surrounding water. The beach is accessible and provides an ideal vantage point to observe the tower from a comfortable distance.
The original keeper's house from 1801 still stands on the property alongside the tower. Coast Guard personnel who maintain the lighthouse continue to occupy this wood-frame residence, keeping the site's early history alive.
