Oak Grove Cemetery

Oak Grove Cemetery spreads across eleven acres with curved lanes and granite monuments set among rolling terrain bounded by Washington, Grove, and Derby Streets and Maplewood Avenue. The grounds hold thousands of headstones distributed along winding paths that blend naturally with the boulder-filled landscape.

This burial ground was founded in 1855 by six local businessmen who commissioned prominent landscape architects to design the grounds. The Bradford Chapel was added in the early 1900s and represents a later expansion of the original vision.

The Bradford Chapel commands attention at the entrance with its Romanesque design built from local stone. Visitors notice how the building serves as a natural gathering point and helps with navigation across the expansive grounds.

Maps are available at the chapel wall near the main entrance to help you navigate the grounds. The curved pathways make it easy to stroll through the cemetery in any season.

The grounds preserve a single original path marker from its founding era. This rare survivor shows how 19th-century visitors were guided through the cemetery layout.
