Adventure is a fishing schooner measuring 37 meters in length, built with two masts and designed specifically for commercial fishing operations on the Grand Banks. The vessel displays the practical construction typical of its era, with distinct areas for crew quarters, fishing work, and storage below deck.

Built in 1926 at Essex Shipyard, this vessel represented the final generation of fishing schooners constructed during the transition to motorized boats. The design without a bowsprit reflected safety improvements made during the later years of commercial fishing sail vessels.

The vessel embodies the fishing heritage of Gloucester and reflects how crews lived and worked at sea during the height of commercial fishing. Walking through its quarters and work areas reveals the daily realities and hardships of these maritime workers.

The schooner operates as a living museum with opportunities to join educational sailing programs and guided tours managed by a local non-profit organization. Visiting is most rewarding during warmer months when regular sailing trips and demonstrations of traditional fishing techniques occur.

The schooner represents one of the last working sail-powered fishing vessels built just as the industry was shifting away from wind-driven boats. Few similar vessels survive today, making it a rare window into a maritime craft that nearly disappeared completely.
