Le Pieu

Le Pieu is a mountain summit in the Vercors range that stands at 2,093 meters and is surrounded by steep rocky cliffs. The peak sits within a dramatic Alpine landscape where the terrain drops sharply into surrounding valleys.

During World War II the Vercors region served as a strategic stronghold for French Resistance fighters opposing German occupation. The mountains provided shelter and defensive positions for partisan operations across the Alpine territory.

The mountain paths around Le Pieu connect multiple villages where visitors experience traditional Alpine customs and regional mountain cuisine.

Several marked trails reach the summit and require sturdy hiking boots and prior mountain walking experience. Weather can shift rapidly at this elevation, so bringing extra layers and rain gear is essential.

From the summit on clear days you can see across the entire Drôme valley and the Massif du Vercors mountain chain. This sweeping view across multiple ridges and valleys is the reward for completing the climb.
