Built in 1964 by Électricité de France, this dam emerged during a period of rapid hydroelectric infrastructure development in southeastern France.
The dam represents French engineering expertise in hydroelectric power generation, contributing to the national energy independence strategy of the 1960s.
The reservoir contains 34 million cubic meters of water, which provides consistent hydroelectric power generation while regulating the Drac River flow.
This earthwork structure maintains a water surface of 165 hectares at an elevation of 367 meters in the Grenoble-Alpes metropolitan region.
