Saut du Day, Waterfall at Vallorbe, Switzerland.
Saut du Day is a waterfall near Vallorbe where water plunges down moss-covered rocks surrounded by forest. The falls drop directly beneath a large railway viaduct that spans across the Orbe valley.
The viaduct above the waterfall was completed in 1925 and connects Cossonay to Vallorbe as a key railway line. The structure used stone from nearby quarries and represents early 20th-century engineering.
Local fishing traditions continue at the Orbe River, where visitors catch trout and bring them to nearby restaurants for preparation.
The site is best reached by train to Day station or by parking nearby and following the local hiking route to the waterfall. The path goes through forest with some elevation changes, so sturdy footwear is needed.
Below the waterfall lies an old tunnel system that once channeled water to turbines for electricity generation. These remnants of early hydropower show how people harnessed the force of falling water.
