Gorges de la Beaume, Protected natural area in Ardèche, France
Gorges de la Beaume is a protected natural area in the Ardèche region featuring steep limestone cliffs and a river valley. The site extends about 10 kilometers and contains pebble beaches, walking paths, and natural passages through the rock formations.
The gorge received protected status because of its geological importance and role as a natural corridor connecting multiple municipalities. Conservation measures were implemented to safeguard the rock formations and the biodiversity found within this limestone canyon.
The protected area contains numerous hiking trails that connect traditional villages, where visitors can discover local artisans and regional stone architecture.
A pedestrian bridge provides access into the valley, and parking is available near the village of Labeaume where trails begin. Wear sturdy walking shoes as many paths cross uneven, rocky ground.
The valley is home to a rare fish species called the Apron that is endemic to this river section. This small population makes the gorge an important refuge for preserving this threatened species.
