Crique de l'Anau, Mediterranean cove in Sète, France.

Crique de l'Anau is a cove on the Mediterranean coast of Sète featuring fine sandy beaches and turquoise water beneath tall cliffs. Several smaller pockets of beach line the shore, each offering sheltered swimming and sunbathing spots.

This natural inlet formed through coastal erosion and became a local gathering spot for fishermen and beachgoers over time. As Sète developed as a port city, the area gained in importance for daily life.

Local residents maintain traditional beach practices at this cove, creating a relaxed environment that reflects the Mediterranean way of life.

The cove is accessible from Boulevard Maréchal Leclerc via residential streets, with parking available throughout the year. During summer months the area fills up, so arriving early helps secure a spot.

Some of the smaller beach sections are only reachable by swimming, creating natural private bathing areas favored by adventurous visitors. These hidden spots require a bit of effort but reward explorers with seclusion.

Agde photo spots and Instagram locations

Agde and the adjoining Cap d'Agde on the Mediterranean coast offer photographers a mix of volcanic rock formations, black sand beaches, and historic architecture. The 12th-century Cathédrale Saint-Étienne stands in the old town center, built from local basalt. Fort de Brescou, a 16th-century fortress on an offshore island, marks the region's maritime history. The port area and the Musée de l'Éphèbe, which displays Greek and Roman artifacts recovered from the Mediterranean, document the city's long seafaring tradition. The coastline provides varied subjects, including Mont Saint-Loup, a 114-meter (374-foot) extinct volcano, Plage de la Grande Conque with its black pebbles, and the volcanic cliffs at Cap d'Agde. The Thau Lagoon near Sète, Île des Loisirs with its recreational facilities, and the Hérault River mouth at Le Grau d'Agde extend the photographic possibilities. Additional sites include Château Laurens, an Art Nouveau building, the Round Lock on the Canal du Midi, the Brescou lighthouse, and the 14th-century Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-l'Agenouillade.
