Big Lagoon

Big Lagoon, Lagoon in Coron, Philippines

Big Lagoon is a narrow channel of turquoise water extending about 800 meters into Miniloc Island, framed by steep limestone walls on both sides. The protected inlet creates a distinctive sheltered space where the towering rock formations dominate the landscape.

Local fishing communities have relied on these waters for centuries, passing down traditional methods and knowledge from one generation to the next. The sustainable practices developed over time have allowed the area to remain vital and rich with marine life.

The Tagbanua people have shaped the relationship between communities and these waters over centuries, with their presence still visible in how locals interact with and care for the area. Their connection to the lagoon remains part of daily life for those living nearby.

Organized boat tours from Coron town offer the main way to reach this location, with kayak rentals available at the entrance. Paddling through the channel lets you move at your own pace and explore different spots along the water.

As the water level drops, the narrow entrance becomes shallower and reveals coral formations along with small fish clustered in clear pools. This natural shift gives you a rare chance to see marine creatures that usually stay hidden beneath the surface.
