Kingston Penitentiary, Former maximum security prison museum in Kingston, Canada

The Kingston Penitentiary Museum displays artifacts, documents, and exhibits within Cedarhedge, the previous residence of the prison wardens on King Street West.

The museum began in 1964 when Superintendent Robert Cunningham allocated a dedicated room for preserving the history of Canada's federal penitentiary system.

The collection includes uniforms, tools, photographs, and documents that illustrate the evolution of correctional practices in Canadian federal institutions since their establishment.

The museum welcomes visitors daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with the last entry at 3:30 PM, and operates on a charitable donation admission basis.

The facility receives 50,000 annual visitors who explore the exhibits housed in the Victorian-style building that served as home to Kingston Penitentiary wardens.
