Rectoría General, University administration building and museum in downtown Guadalajara, Mexico.
The Rectoría General of the Universidad de Guadalajara serves as the central administrative headquarters of the institution and houses the Museum of Arts of the University, known as MUSA, which displays national and international contemporary art in a building of heritage value.
The building was designed in 1914 by engineer Alfredo Navarro Branca and became the rectory headquarters in 1937, when José Clemente Orozco painted emblematic murals on the dome of the Paraninfo between 1935 and 1937, representing themes related to education and science.
The Paraninfo Enrique Díaz de León preserves José Clemente Orozco's murals, including the work Man the Creator and Rebel, which symbolizes teaching, technique, and rebellion, also functioning as a ceremonial hall for the university.
Located on Avenida Juárez in downtown Guadalajara, the museum opens Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, offering wheelchair access and free guided tours to exhibitions and the Paraninfo.
The building combines eclectic academic architecture from 1914 with French ornamental elements and art nouveau details, including a central dome that houses Orozco's murals and functions simultaneously as an administrative center, museum, and university cultural space.
