Templo de Jesús María is a single-nave church in Centro, Guadalajara, with a façade parallel to the street, two twin doorways and an atrium. A bell tower and upper and lower choirs stand at the foot of the nave. The corner holds a Baroque column with a sculpture of Saint Christopher of Lycia, and gargoyles and Marian portals honour Nuestra Señora de la Luz and Nuestra Señora de los Dolores.

The convent began with the Beaterio de Jesús Nazareno in Compostela, founded in 1685; after a dispute over the will of priest Fernando de Amezquita, the beatas moved to the Valle de Atemajac in 1692. A royal decree of 1721 approved a new Dominican convent, established as Jesús María on 30 May 1721 with nuns from Santa María de Gracia.

The temple is the sanctuary of the Virgen del Rayo, an image of the Virgin of the Rosary burned by lightning on 13 August 1807 in the convent's portería; the Christ Child it carried was unharmed. The Dominicans returned it to the church with prayers and masses, and devotion spread beyond Guadalajara. The building is also one of the stops on the Semana Santa visit to the seven churches, alongside the cathedral and the Templo de la Merced.

The church sits in the Centro Histórico of Guadalajara, with its façade running parallel to the street and two twin doorways opening onto an atrium. It is one of the stops on the traditional Visita a los Siete Templos held each Semana Santa, when the cathedral, Templo de la Merced, Basílica de San Felipe Neri, Templo de Santa Mónica, Templo de las Capuchinas and Templo de Santa Teresa de Jesús are also visited. Look for the Baroque corner column with the sculpture of Saint Christopher.

On the corner stands a Baroque column carrying a sculpture of Saint Christopher of Lycia, and gargoyles shaped as animals run along the building. The twin doorways bear Marian images, including Nuestra Señora de la Luz and Nuestra Señora de los Dolores. The oculus, sacristy and lower-choir grille are singled out as notable elements.
