Templo de San Agustín, Guadalajara

The Templo de San Agustín is a Baroque church in central Guadalajara with a striking gold and white facade. The building displays architectural features from its 1854 reconstruction and houses an ornately designed neoplateresque altar inside.

Construction of this religious complex began in 1573 under commission from Spanish King Philip II and took about a century to complete due to various obstacles. The structure was substantially rebuilt in the 19th century.

The church honors Saint Augustine and Saint Monica, reflecting the religious devotion that shaped the city's spiritual identity. Visitors can see how this veneration is expressed in the baroque ornaments and the carefully decorated altar.
