Granatalm
Granatalm is a mountain lodge and restaurant in Schwendau situated on a sunny plateau at 2095 meters elevation. The building features traditional Austrian architecture with wooden furnishings and offers both indoor dining areas and an outdoor sun terrace with views of the surrounding peaks.
Granatalm developed as a traditional mountain lodge in the Zillertal region and grew into a popular meeting point for skiers and hikers over time. The chapel beside the lodge, Granatkapelle, was designed by a renowned Swiss architect and adds to the place's special significance.
The name Granatalm refers to the red garnet minerals found in the surrounding mountains. The lodge serves both locals and visitors, blending everyday mountain culture with regional dishes from the Zillertal valley.
The lodge is accessible by car or mountain lifts and features wheelchair access with automatic doors and an elevator to the restrooms. Guests can pay with common debit and credit cards, and table reservations are available by phone.
Next to the lodge stands Granatkapelle, a small chapel by a reservoir designed by a Swiss architect that creates a special setting for weddings. Many couples choose this exact combination of chapel, mountain views, and reception meal for their celebrations.
