Heritage Madurai
Heritage Madurai is a hotel in Madurai with 72 rooms including 34 villas designed in South Indian colonial style. The grounds feature a temple-tank-style pool, landscaped gardens with a small brook, and dining areas built around ancient banyan trees.
The property was originally the Madurai Club, a colonial-era recreation and sports venue. Its conversion to a hotel involved redesign inspired by architect Geoffrey Bawa, a Sri Lankan modernist known for blending buildings with natural surroundings and using horizontal lines and simple forms.
Heritage Madurai takes its name from the former Madurai Club, a social gathering place that has been preserved as a hotel. The property reflects South Indian colonial style through its architecture and courtyards, creating a space where local heritage remains visible to guests.
The hotel is located on Melakkal Main Road in Kochadai, easily accessible from the airport and train station. Guests benefit from a 24-hour front desk, free Wi-Fi, room service, laundry service, and on-site medical support for any health needs.
The main restaurant is built around a banyan tree over 200 years old, where guests dine beneath its branches. This ancient tree was intentionally preserved as part of the hotel design, creating a dining experience under living natural elements.
