The Standard Spa, Miami Beach
The Standard Spa Miami Beach is a hotel and spa resort located on a quiet island, designed around water and communal bathing spaces. It features a Turkish Hammam, steam rooms, saunas, a chlorine-free pool, an infinity pool, hot tubs with bay views, 101 guest rooms with simple modern design, and a restaurant serving local ingredients.
The building opened in 1960 as the Lido Spa and retained its original Art Deco design throughout its history. After a major renovation in 2005, it became The Standard Spa, and in late 2021 it was acquired by Barry Sternlicht, founder of luxury hotel brands.
The spa draws on shared bathing traditions from around the world, encouraging guests to enjoy communal water rituals together rather than in isolation. Visitors experience these practices through the Hammam, steam room, and other water spaces designed for collective use.
The property is accessible on foot or by bike and sits near shops and restaurants while remaining quieter than busier Miami Beach areas. Wheelchair-accessible rooms and pool areas are available, along with free Wi-Fi, room service, and staff who speak multiple languages to assist with bookings and directions.
A retro-style phone booth in the garden is actually a working line that connects callers to Congress, designed to remind guests to contact their representatives for change. The hotel also prioritizes water conservation by only cleaning rooms when guests request it rather than daily.
